About Me

Hi! I'm Darien, welcome to my personal website!

I attend UBC's University Transition Program, a specialized program condensing high school into just 2 years, and TKS, a prestigious program with a 10–15% acceptance rate, where my focus is on motorsport engineering—specifically aerodynamics and CFD technology. I conduct projects around researching the application of CFDs in F1 and have built models for fluid dynamics testing.

I co-founded the GritLabs public speaking and debate program, and I'm a longtime member of my local Gavel Club, where I serve as Vice President of Membership.

Outside of all of that, I love trivia and history.

Interests & Hobbies

I love motorsports, automotive engineering. I've been watching Formula 1 since I was a kid (Mercedes fan), I also love WRC (Rovanpera is my goat). I find that almost everything I do all comes back to engineering.

An article exploring how computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is shaping the future of Formula 1 aerodynamics, with a focus on comparing modern CFD models with wind tunnel testing. Discusses the challenges CFD models currently face, and how F1 has applied CFDs to testing. Check out the article here!

Home-made Lid-driven-cavity CFD Simulation

Soil Moisture Sensor with Arduino (ONGOING)

A smart irrigation system using an Arduino-based soil moisture sensor to optimize water usage and improve agricultural efficiency. Update 1

F1 Telemetry Simulator (ONGOING)

A machine learning program that aims to predict F1 races through analysis of past F1 telemetry data, serves as a F1 telemetry viewer as well. Check out my first prototype!

Solar-Powered RC Boat

A small-scale prototype of an RC boat powered by solar energy, designed for the 2025 Physics Olympics prebuild challenge.

"Sven" IKEA Conversational AI Assistant

Working alongside IKEA, my group created "Sven", a conversational AI assistant that provided a human-like customer support experience to IKEA customers, with the aim of reducing labour costs for the IKEA support team. Check out our slide deck!
